You and E sound pretty handy. Here’s a silly thought for you: maybe you could set up a Wi-Fi antenna outside Dwarfie Stane and you could be the first person to write an epistolary novel from inside a 5000-year-old tomb. Have a good and safe trip to the Netherlands.
I've just written a post about something similar. I brought two rucksacks of my mum's clothes back with me, including a jumper she knitted, dresses I remember, and scarves.
Having a jumper your Mum knitted is lovely, do you wear it? I love the feeling of being cocooned in some of my Mum's things. I also have a massive woolly jumper of my Dad that I wear in winter & it's almost like being in one of his bear hugs. I'll head over to your post, thanks for sharing 🧡
Thank you for this. The part about your mum's things really resonated. I've just let go of the outfit she wore to my wedding as she only wore it once and there are plenty of photos of her wearing it. But it's the everyday things she wore year in, year out that are the real struggle. Those and the party outfits she wore loads in the 70s and 80s. Like you, I'll never fit them, but I just can't let go of them.
I definitely fair worse these days after a drink - even just one. The next day I’ll be more tired/ratty/emotional than usual - so I do think there’s something in it. But hormones on their own cause enough trouble anyway!
Well done for sorting your clothes piles out. It’s not easy even when there isn’t such an attachment. And probably we all keep things no one else would understand - at least not without a backstory.
You are a bit younger than me though - I’ve only noticed this in the last year or so - so something to look forward to. Mind you, it could be compounded by me being on Tamoxifen. Also I am slightly allergic to alcohol ;)
I’m struggling with my dad’s books right now. I am sorting the ones mum doesn’t want to keep out to find new homes for them - some will stay with me - but I can’t keep them all so I’m hoping to find people who will be as enthusiastic about them as he was. There’s even some VHS tapes in the last batch I brought home. Do people still use them? Maybe enthusiasts somewhere.
I have a precious VHS of an interview for Songs of Praise my natural mother did back in very early 2005. When she died a few months later the production team sent me the tape. I’ve never been able to watch it. I was in it briefly as the story was how she’d had a baby young and given it up for adoption but now back in touch kind of thing. And not that I knew at the time but I had a proto daughter forming too. It went out on Mothers Day that year. I will need to find someone who can transfer it to dvd. But even then I may not be able to throw away the VHS!

Now that would be quite a thing!!

That’s still tough and yes I agree it’s the everyday things & the things that just instantly make you think mum & bring back happy memories x
2 things:
1. I have serious poly-tunnel envy! 😳
2. Loving your dividers! 🤓
He’s pretty fabulous isn’t he? And thank you 🤩

I don’t really notice it to be honest, not after a couple of glasses, more than that and it gets a bit ropey though 🤣
Thank you & yes I’m sure we do, the little things that pull at our heart strings or make us smile 🥰

Oh wow that’s very special - there are places who do that you should definitely look it up 🧡
It's on my to-do list :)
Looking forward to seeing it on your ta da list!
Haha - I need to do one of those soon :)
That’s true and being slightly allergic can’t help!
Books are really hard to let go of aren’t they? And VHS, I still have a couple tucked away in another box somewhere 📼
