Were you chaperoning? Did you get to meet them all? I've not seen anything with Sarah Greene or Eve Hewson, they are brilliant - as are the rest of course!
So lovely to listen to you reading your words, can we have some curlew sounds please? On glasses...I've needed reading glasses since around 2020 I think (brain fog has eroded my ability to keep dates in my head) and I'm constantly leaning in to the screen so it must be time for a check up.
Thank you Lynne, I don't always do it, but I'm never sure if my humour comes across and so it helps convey that I mostly take the piss out of myself! It does sound like it's time for a check up...since I started using my glasses most of the time it's been a revelation!!
My latest eye check up showed I needed to now wear my varifocals full time (was struggling with menus and some smaller signs while driving - not to mention giving myself eyestrain) and that I have the start of cataracts 😱. I thought that was for old people, but apparently not exclusively! (And actually I am quite old). Going back tomorrow for my second contact lens trial - the first one failed as I nearly threw up when the first varifocal one was fitted - and the other one wouldn’t sit on my eyeball correctly because of the astigmatism! This time she’s ordered just the distance vision and changed the curve. But even with them I’d still need reading glasses! It’s tough getting older 🤣
The seeds I have to do something with this year are for sprouting - I just need to clear a space to put the bottles first ;)
Oh and I love spring bird song- especially the robins in the park. It’s pick up a notch recently.
NO YOU ARE NOT....as we get older, 'old' gets later and later doesn't it? For me old is now your 90s!! Is there anything that can be done to slow down the development of cataracts or does it always end in surgery?
Sprouting seeds are great, minimal fuss and great reward, I found a really hot spot in our porch where I have the seed trays but I might try sprouts too.
Haha - you are right about the old getting older as we age ;). Just some days …
I have prescription sunglasses to help keep my eyes safe and even the clear ones have a UV protection coating. That helps slow down the formation which is the main aim. I will eventually need surgery but it can take many years.
I’ve not tried the sprouting seeds yet - I did used to grow veggies and strawberries in my garden. Potatoes, French beans, carrots and courgette. But when I got a cat I stopped and never restarted again. Maybe one day once the house is sorted :)
Thank you so much Rachel, that's so bloody amazing to hear! Our gulls are pretty good in the main, but the black backed will be hanging around soon and they like to take newborn lambs so they're bit of a pest.
When I got to the stage of needing both glasses for short sightedness and for reading I invested in lens replacement surgery. It wasn’t cheap but it was by far the best money I’ve ever spent. I see perfectly now and only when I’m tired do I need to wear reading glasses. Highly recommend it!
Brings back memories of my house-bound late Dad fretting constantly about the level of the oil central heating tank. He was in the north east, we were down in Edinburgh, so not easy to check. Eventually he was able to get gas central heating put in through a government scheme for the elderly, which was a godsend.
Good luck with the cholesterol. I was amazed a few years ago to find I had raised cholesterol, being thin and active. But I did eat butter and cheese - quite a lot! Since then I've managed to avoid medication by managing it with diet. One main hidden culprit is coconut oil/butter - super high in cholesterol. Also palm oil, which lurks in so many processed foods.
Oh no your poor Dad, it’s very easy to become fixated on. Gas central heating is so much better, I’m glad he was able to have some time not fretting about it. We rented for a year with oil heating and they had a fancy electric gauge thing but we haven’t got one here because we keep saying we’ll start the renovation soon 😆
Thankfully my cholesterol is ok - I wouldn’t want to give up mackerel, cheese, butter … I’d be too sad! Well done for avoiding the meds.
I feel you on the glasses situation. I went to to the opticians for the first time in two or three years because I could tell I was starting to get a bit long sighted. And then they told me that my short sightedness had got substantially worse too 😱 it’s great being middle aged isn’t it 🤣
Isn't it just?! I never needed glasses before and still don't for driving, apparently, but I can't read subtitles, or the score line etc. on the TV without them!
I’d convinced myself that I couldn’t see captions & subtitles properly as everyone’s got massive tv sets now and we’ve still got my modestly sized 2009 one. But no - my eyesight is just way worse 🤦🏻♀️😄
"my writing hasn’t yet reached the dizzying heights of creating vivid descriptions which transport people to the moment" have to disagree, you did a great job painting a picture of that Sunday morning 😁
I worked on Bad Sisters
Oh wow amazing - what did you do..? 🤩

Loved the audio, it made me chuckle 😅 great writing!
Thank you so much, I'm glad I made you chuckle - that's always my main aim!

The bird sone has definitely got more springy!

Your words transport me to Orkney! I'm jealous of your quiet gulls.

Air in your oil pipe? Been there got the t shirt. What you need is a Tiger Loop device. Dont ask how it works, just know that IT WORKS!
Nightmare isn’t it? Hopefully we won’t be caught out again … she says! I’ll look up a tiger loop, thank you!
I love your genuinely flowing words 😃

Thank you so much Jane, I’m never sure it’ll it’s flow or rambling!! Hopefully that’s the charm?!
I will keep surgery in mind although thankfully day to day is okay for now.

🤣🤣 same, our tv is still what I’d call big but Erik insists it’s not!!
