I've decided to take myself I tiny bit seriously

I didn’t want to muddy the waters of my weekly post with admin so I thought I’d send a separate post out. That said I’m not entirely sure it warrants a whole post of it’s own, but hey this is where we are.

Announcement!

I’ve made the decision to turn on paid subscriptions on Sunday 1st September 2024!

Something I’ve learnt through supporting local authorities and working on government funded programmes is to always put the FULL date in, even if it seems obvious!

Here are the NAQs - never asked questions because I’ve never done this before - I’m just having a guess at what your questions might be.

Why are you turning them on?

Because the advice out there that has been screaming at me for weeks (months?) is, just turn them on. You’ll upgrade or you won’t. Simple.

What does this mean for me?

At the moment absolutely nothing, unless you’ve pledged. Tell a lie, the ‘pledge’ buttons will turn into ‘upgrade’ buttons.

I’ve pledged, what happens?

Truth - I don’t exactly know. I have emailed my pledgers, all two of you, directly to let them know that paid subs are going on so they have the option to unpledge! One has said they are happy to pay, AMAZING, the other hasn’t replied. If that’s you, I do hope you got my email.

What extras do I get if I upgrade?

None. Nothing. Nada. Except the warm glow of supporting an aspiring writer of course. I have some ideas about what I could paywall, perhaps insights into my writing journey, the process, the research, extracts etc. or it could be a deep dive into the permaculture dreams. This is yet to be figured out.

So you’re asking us to upgrade out of the kindness of our hearts?

Good question thanks. Erm, I’m going to go with no.

There will be an upgrade button on every post (see buttons below) and new subscribers are always given the option to upgrade, because of how the platform works, but I have ZERO expectations. If you like what I’m chatting about, stick around, if you fancy paying, do & if I’m not your person, then please feel free to unsubscribe. That goes for people I know IRL!

Ok, so let’s say I upgrade, how much is it going to cost me.

I’ve set the paid subscription to £4pm or £40pa. Payments are taken via Stripe

A note on buttons…

If you’re not a Substacker then this is how the buttons work. We have a few to play with such as subscribe, comment, and share. If you are subscribed, as soon as I opened up the option for you to ‘pledge your support’, the subscribe button turned into a ‘pledge’ button and from Sunday, the subscribe button will then turn into an ‘upgrade’ button.

Because I will always add a subscribe button to my posts (in case anyone who hasn’t subscribed can easily do so), you will always see an upgrade button.
