It’s been a while since I’ve posted. Yet again. These weekly updates haven’t been coming because things have been busy & a little wild. Well wild by my standards anyway.
As you know from my last post, we had my in-laws staying with us. Immediately after that, we went down south to visit my family. The day we arrived back, friends came to stay with us for a few days. Shortly after, we went on a trip to Skye.
Our trip to Skye was a ‘working’ holiday. Basically after one of my meetings with friend & client Emma, we decided the next bit needed to be done in person, which is why we found ourselves travelling to Skye for my 4 hour meeting!
It was fabulous though, we stopped at Strathpeffer on the way, stayed in Waternish while on Skye & then stopped at the ever so accurately named ‘Hidden Gem’ in Silverbridge. A wooden cabin with balconies at the front and back looking out onto woodland & hills. I even got to meet a couple of Red Deer!
To be honest I’m gutted I didn’t write about the trip and now I’m not sure how much I remember of it, although, what I do remember is this… the feeling of awe, warmth, comfort & laughter.
In short, meeting Emma was sublime. A true meeting of minds. We chatted, a lot, went walking and ate really well. I mean really well. If you ever make it to Dunvegan, do go to The Dunvegan Fire Restaurant - lush. Plus she put us up in their amazing Art Gallery - The 1970 Gallery. If you make it to Skye do go visit.
Speaking of food, the reason we went South was to celebrate my Step-Mum’s 60th & we treated ourselves by dining at the absolutely sublime The Counter in Tunbridge Wells. What an experience, made even more special by the fact chef & owner Robin Read’s first ever job was under the somewhat explosive tutelage of my Dad. Some people called my Dad a bit of a Gordon Ramsey in the kitchen, but without the ego and viciousness. He was much loved, as proven by the number of people he’d trained, shouted at & worked with over those 30 odd years attending his funeral. It was a great comfort.
These five to six weeks have been truly lovely, but shortly after coming back I appear to have been hit sideways by Covid. I can’t be 100% sure because who has tests these days, but it’s more than a cold & the cough had me up 5 out of 6 nights. I think, I hope, I am over the worst of it now. Being unwell is extremely tedious & it served as a reminder of how lucky I have been with my health & how I really want to sustain it into my dotage. Next week it’s back to the personal trainer & less mindless snacking. At home, Doug the Crub got a little bit out of control. The tomatoes are mainly reorganised, cabbages harvested, more salads sown and this afternoon I’m going to tackle the orach, a bitter spinach type leaf. Am I selling it?
The challenge with all of this is finding ways to preserve it all! Still lessons have been learnt about what I can grow, what I want to grow & the reality of how many plants I need. Note to self, 2 people do not need 3 courgette plants.
Till next time

Interestingly I’m still seeing new followers trickle through even though I haven’t added any new content. Unsurprisingly my subscriber count remains woefully low!
I don't think 61 subscribers is woefully low! Just wanted to pop that in here 🥳 what's low to one person, is aspirational to another - not saying i don't get caught up in it sometimes too, but nice to be reminded sometimes 🥰
'Note to self, 2 people do not need 3 courgette plants.' - Lol, I learned that lesson the hard way myself. The same goes for cucumber plants, just FYI! That trip sounds absolute bliss ❤
